Plastic Engineering is one the youngest engineering branch. It has taken world by storm due to its high demand. A plastics engineer is the one who handles the design and development of all materials, molds, and other goods made with plastics.

Plastic engineer design and develop plastic parts, molds and molding processes. They examine the chemical compositions of plastics and choose appropriate compositions to use for various purposes.

About Department

Plastic Engineering Department in institute is a specialized multidisciplinary department, one of its own kind which is offering good quality diploma in Plastic Engineering. Plastic Engineering Department is established in 1994. Institute is running Diploma in Plastic Engineering Program with 60 intakes of students. Department has well established 4 Laboratories, 4 Class room among which 1 classroom with OHP facility. Department is having 5 experienced teaching faculties for teaching learning Activities. Plastic Engineering Program   is one of the unique Diploma Engineering course run by Government of Gujarat having 4 years course duration and it includes 1 year BOAT Industrial training. Students get stipend from Govt. Of India as per Apprenticeship Act. Curriculum of the program and examination pattern is as per GTU norms.

Labs

Testing plays a critical role in the life cycle of a plastic, from the raw material to the compound through to the semi-finished and finished product. Each stage has different test requirements, and each end user may require a different test solution depending on their role, whether it is in Product Development (R&D), Quality Control (QC), Testing Services (TS), or Research (R).
The physical and mechanical testing of polymers is a vital part of the product development and production process. Mechanical, thermal, optical, rheological behaviour and climate testing allow the developers to understand their product better, and introduce stronger quality control.
For reason of better understanding on plastic test department having separate testing lab. Lab is quite huge around 12mtr * 12 mtr in size with accommodation of 40 students at a time. Lab is equipped various testing equipments such as Izod Impact tester, Melt Flow Index tester, Tensile Testing Machine, Gloss Meter, Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance etc. Laboratory used for subjects like Plastic Testing & Quality Management.
Based on the concept of “molecular technology”, in this laboratory student identifies different plastic materials in the field of polymer chemistry. Polymer Chemistry laboratory belongs to Plastic Engineering Departments. Reorganization of different polymers are our interest. Polymer Chemistry Lab having area of around 16 mtr * 11 mtr in size with accommodation of 60 students at a time. Laboratory is used for subjects like Basic Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Plastic materials-I, Plastic materials-II etc.
By the use of computer student can get a better education so computer learning is also very much important. No one can be perfect without practical learning. Due this student must use computer and must gain computer knowledge. For the help of student in their difficult life computer has designed different kinds of things and for better understanding of student different people from different places have made a web site so that whatever the information required by the student they are provide by the internet which is being used in worldwide by different people. They can use it anywhere any time when they want.
On same aim Plastic department has facility of computer lab for enhancement of student work. Students are allowed to work in lab whenever required. Lab is facilitated with 20 nos. of computers for students along with shared printer. Lab is quite huge around 12mtr * 12 mtr in size with accommodation of 40 students at a time. Each student can get internet access through firewall for their work. Lab is useful during learning time for practical work. Subject like Computer Application & Graphics is thought in the lab during practical hours.
